She’s shouting it from the rooftops and belting it out in the rain! Almost a decade after losing her husband, Leonard Gordon, the legendary Rita Moreno has made it crystal clear: she’d rather eat glass than ever get married again. “Someone asked me recently if I’d consider tying the knot again,” the vibrant 87-year-old told People. “My response? Simple. I’d rather eat glass. Marriage? No, no, no, no, no.”

While Rita admits her marriage to Leonard, which lasted from 1965 until his passing in 2010, wasn’t always a bed of roses, she stayed with him for the sake of their daughter, Fernanda Luisa Fisher. “It wasn’t always sunshine and roses,” she confessed, “but we had a bond, and I wanted to provide stability for our family.”

Rita shared a poignant reflection on her marriage, highlighting the traditional dynamics of her era. “I come from a time when women were expected to follow the man’s lead in the family,” she explained. “For the longest time, I didn’t even know how to write a check. It’s embarrassing to admit, but it was more recent than you might think.”

With marriage off the table, Rita is channeling her energy into her storied acting career. She’s set to star in the highly anticipated remake of West Side Story, and she’s not stopping there. “I’ll be visiting the rehearsals,” she told People, with a playful tone. “And yes, I’ll be critiquing the dancers. If someone takes a step out of place, I’ll be there to say, ‘What were you thinking?!’”

For now, Rita is embracing life with open arms. “I’m truly happy,” she said with a smile. “Life has so much to offer, and I’m soaking it all in.”
